Alan Anderson: Undergoes surgery on ailing ankle

Anderson underwent surgery Tuesday to remove a small bony fragment from his left ankle, Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post reports. The Wizards haven't released a timetable for his return.

Analysis:

Anderson previously underwent an operation on the ankle during the offseason to remove bone spurs, but he continued to experience discomfort throughout training camp, and still has yet to participate in a practice. While there's no telling how soon he might be cleared to take the court, it's probably safe to assume at this time that Anderson won't be available for the Wizards' regular-season opener Oct. 28 in Orlando. The uncertain recovery timetable along with his likely bench role once he's cleared to return to game action effectively takes Anderson off the fantasy radar in most formats.
