Norris Cole out up to six weeks with high ankle sprain, John Reid of the Times-Picayune reports.

Cole has been diagnosed with a high left ankle sprain and will be out for up to six weeks, John Reid of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Analysis:

This is rough news for Cole, who was likely to enter the season with a larger role off the bench while Jrue Holiday remains held to a strict minute restriction. The injury timetable will sideline Cole for the remainder of the preseason schedule, and quite likely, much of the first full month of the regular season, leaving the Pelicans thin in the backcourt. As a result, the Pelicans may look to add another guard, as Cole was the main backup at the point behind Holiday and Tyreke Evans.
