Steph Curry calls Lawson's critique of his defense 'funny'

Ty Lawson's recent comments aren't fazing "The Chef."

The newest member of the Houston Rockets was openly critical of Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry's defense during the 2015 Western Conference finals in a recent interview with Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

"Steph Curry needed someone to go back at him," Lawson said. "I thought Steph was just chillin' on defense - and then going crazy on offense.

"He looked like he was just putting shots up and not working so much on the defensive end. He would just come down and hit three or four threes. He can shoot when he's got his legs under him."

When asked about Lawson's critique following Warriors practice Saturday, the reigning NBA Most Valuable Player simply laughed it off.

"It's funny," Curry said. "That’s all I've got to say. It's funny."

Curry averaged 31.2 points over the five-game series, shooting better than 59 percent from the field in each of the first three outings.

While Curry's reputation as a scoring machine precedes him, his defense shouldn't be overlooked - the 27-year-old point guard led the league in total steals with 163 during the 2014-15 campaign. He also ranked fourth in steals per game (2.0), fourth in steal percentage (3.0), and 15th in defensive win shares (4.1).

Patrick Beverley, one of the NBA's premier guards on the defensive end, was unavailable for Houston during the series with a left wrist injury. Should the Warriors and Rockets cross paths in the playoffs again, Curry will have more to contend with in a healthy Beverley and motivated Lawson, perhaps keeping his potential offensive outbursts in check.
