Timberwolves GM Milt Newton said Monday that Garnett (knee) is healthy and ready to go for the start of training camp, Kent Youngblood of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Analysis:

After making his return to the Timberwolves in a February deadline deal, Garnett appeared in just five games with the club before a knee injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season. With his health intact for the upcoming season, Garnett is slated to open camp as the starter at center, but he'll likely only see about 20 minutes per night in an effort to keep his 39-year-old legs fresh. While Garnett is still capable of providing shutdown defense in the low block, his greatest value may come as a mentor to young bigs Karl-Anthony Towns and Gorgui Dieng. As the season progresses, Garnett will likely see his role diminish as the team looks to carve out more minutes for those younger options.
