Report: T-Wolves' Pekovic to become president of Partizan Belgrade

Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

Minnesota Timberwolves center Nikola Pekovic will be named the president of popular Serbian basketball club Partizan Belgrade, according to multiple reports.

Partizan also issued a press release in Bosnian.

The 6-foot-11 center played three seasons for Partizan between 2005 and 2008. During that time, Partizan won three straight Basketball League of Serbia championships and a smattering of other honors. In 2008, he was named to the All-Euroleague Second Team.

Despite leaving in 2008 for Panathinaikos, and later the NBA, Pekovic maintained ties to his former club. The 29-year-old reportedly donated $100,000 to Partizan while the team was experiencing financial troubles in January. The club is coming off a disappointing 2014-15 season, where they failed to secure a single trophy.

Pekovic takes over for outgoing president Predrag Danilovic, who left the club after eight seasons in response to the team's growing financial burdens. The exact role Pekovic will play in the management of financing at Partizan is unclear.

The Montenegrin is not the only current NBA player holding a front-office position in Europe while playing in the United States. San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker is the president of French club ASVEL Villeurbanne.
