Report: Rockets close to signing Chris Walker, 3 others to camp deals

The Houston Rockets are taking a training camp flier on Chris Walker.

The team is close to signing Walker to a preseason deal, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports. Joining Walker will be Denzel Livingston, Will Cummings, and Remi Yusuf.

Walker was criticized for declaring for the 2015 NBA Draft and ultimately didn't hear his name called. It's not often a player coming off averages of 4.7 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocks considers himself a legitimate draft prospect, but the power forward eschewed a junior season at Florida to make the jump. Walker is exactly the type of player who could have raised his stock in pre-draft workouts, but he reportedly disappointed in that environment.

With a 7-foot-2 wingspan and solid shot-blocking instincts, Walker plays way above the rim in transition and has shown the makings of an outside jump shot, and he's still just 20. He'll try to impress Houston enough to land with their D-League squad as an affiliate player after camp.

Livingston, a 22-year-old guard, went undrafted out of Incarnate Word following a senior season in which he averaged 21.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.6 steals, and 1.3 blocks. Cummings, also a 22-year-old guard, went undrafted out of Temple after averaging 14.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.9 steals as a senior.

Both Cummings and Livingston were with the Rockets at Summer League this year.

Yusuf is a relative unknown, having appeared in six games in the Slovakian league last season. The 31-year-old guard out of Texas A&M previously played in Saudi Arabia, Mexico, and Colombia.
