Report: Free agent Davis undergoes surgery, out 8-12 weeks

This is some bad timing for Big Baby.

Free-agent big man Glen Davis underwent surgery Wednesday on torn ligaments in his left ankle and will be sidelined from basketball-related activities for 8-12 weeks, according to Yahoo Sports' Marc J. Spears.

Davis suffered the initial injury as a member of the Los Angeles Clippers during last spring's first-round playoff series against the San Antonio Spurs, reports Spears.

Davis has yet to sign with an NBA team for this season, despite reports of the Clippers being interested in bringing him back. The Dallas Mavericks also were reportedly considering signing the 29-year-old.

Davis carries in the neighborhood of 300 pounds on his 6-foot-9 frame, and was generally deployed in minimal action off Doc Rivers' bench to throw that weight around the paint. The reported absence from basketball activities puts a return at either the start of the NBA regular season or beyond, so it's unlikely Davis will be signing a contract anytime soon.

The nine-year NBA veteran has also reportedly considered taking his talents abroad this coming season.
