Jeffery Taylor officially lands with Real Madrid

The rich are getting richer, as defending ACB League, Copa del Rey, and Euroleague champions Real Madrid announced the signing of Jeffery Taylor on Thursday.

Taylor is believed to have signed a one-year deal worth a shade over $900,000, roughly in line with what his minimum salary would have been in the NBA this season. Taylor reportedly turned down an offer from another European powerhouse, Maccabi Tel Aviv, though it's unclear if he received any NBA interest.

The Charlotte Hornets, who drafted Taylor 31st overall in 2012, non-tendered Taylor at the end of June, making him a restricted free agent. Retaining his rights in restricted free agency would have meant giving Taylor his $1.2-million qualifying offer after Taylor's middling performance over three NBA seasons.

In 132 career games, Taylor has averaged 6.1 points and two rebounds, shooting 40.9 percent from the floor and 31.9 percent from long range.

His rookie season was encouraging for his future as a 3-and-D wing, but his sophomore year was cut short due to a torn Achilles tendon. Taylor was then suspended 24 games to start 2014-15 after pleading guilty to domestic violence in October, and never really worked his way into head coach Steve Clifford's rotation.
