Nick Young wants to play for Australia, says rookies need a girlfriend or fall guy

Call him "Swaggy Dundee."

Now engaged to Australian pop star Iggy Azalea, Los Angeles Lakers swingman Nick Young has his sights set on suiting up for the Australian national team.

Apparently Young considers himself a little bit Australian at this point, and so long as he gets a pass on some of the scarier aspects of life Down Under, he's ready to go.

Australian national team stalwart and Golden State Warriors center Andrew Bogut is on board, too, though it's tough to tell if his tongue is firmly in cheek with this tweet.

Young is American, so he would need to secure status as an Australian and meet additional eligibility requirements, and even then it's unclear if he would qualify. But he's almost surely just having fun here, anyway.

Speaking of fun and Azalea, Young also continued his offseason trend of handing out advice early Monday. TMZ Sports caught up with Young to ask about Cris Carter's recent advice that NFL rookies should find a fall guy for legal troubles, and while Young joked along with the question, he provided a nice word of warning to NBA freshmen.

"I don't have to do that. I'm strictly, I love my woman," Young said. "As a rookie coming in, you need a fall guy, if you don't have a girlfriend. But as you get older, them lies get to catching up to you, you can't keep lying."

You can't keep lying, rookies.

Young had Gilbert Arenas as his primary mentor as a rookie, which could explain a lot of Young's present-day shot selection.

Flush with plenty of young talent, the Lakers face a situation this season in which Young and Kobe Bryant stand as the team's veteran leaders - and now they may add Metta World Peace to the mix. It's going to be a fun season in Hollywood.
