Jason Terry confirms Rockets deal, 'blessed and honored' to play 17th season

"The Jet" has landed exactly from whence it departed.

Jason Terry confirmed Wednesday he's agreed to re-sign with the Houston Rockets. Reports surfaced Tuesday that Terry was close to signing a one-year pact with the Rockets worth the $1.5-million veteran minimum, but neither side confirmed publicly until Terry reached out to ESPN.

"I'm blessed and honored that Houston has given me the opportunity to play my 17th season in the NBA," Terry told Calvin Watkins.

While it was long believed Terry could return to Houston, the New Orleans Pelicans and Utah Jazz are also said to have made strong plays for the 37-year-old. Terry should slide into a reserve role similar to the one he played in the 2014-15 regular season, acting as an emergency point guard and backup shooting guard.

With Houston adding Ty Lawson and re-signing Patrick Beverley, Terry probably won't be forced into starting duties like he was during last year's playoffs. Despite potentially reduced playing time, Terry seems to have valued the chance to contend in a familiar city over taking on a larger role with an upstart team.

Terry averaged seven points and 1.9 assists in 21.3 minutes last season, hitting 39 percent from long-range. Over 1,213 career games with five teams, the league's third all-time leading 3-point shooter has averaged 14.8 points and 4.2 assists with a 38-percent mark from outside.
