Nets sign Donald Sloan

The Brooklyn Nets signed free-agent guard Donald Sloan on Monday, the team announced.

Per terms of team policy, details of Sloan's contract were not disclosed.

After bouncing around for the first three seasons of his career, the 6-foot-3 Sloan found permanency with the Indiana Pacers last season. He averaged 7.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists in 20.9 minutes per game.

Sloan will likely battle Shane Larkin for minutes at backup point guard behind starter Jarrett Jack. The Nets are thin at point guard after they waived Deron Williams in July.

To that end, Sloan isn't going to move the needle, despite entering a relatively weak crop at point guard. Sloan is a 27-year-old career journeyman who was never considered a major prospect at any level. He went undrafted in 2010 after a four-year career at Texas A&M.

In addition to Brooklyn, the Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs, and Dallas Mavericks had reportedly shown interest in Sloan.
