Hedo Turkoglu won't go gentle into that good night, because life without "ball" is no life at all.

Without an NBA deal as roster spots become more scarce, the 15-year veteran isn't ready to call it quits. He's not even considering a return to overseas competition, and the 36-year-old is holding out hope for an NBA training camp invite, reports Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports.

It's unclear what kind of team may be interested in taking a flier on a player who hasn't been particularly effective since 2011-12. The Los Angeles Clippers seem to have moved on, and while a reunion with Vlade Divac and the Sacramento Kings made some sense, that's reportedly not something the Kings are interested in.

Should Turkoglu fail to land with a team ahead of the season, it's possible Divac will do him the favor of a 10-day contract later in the year so Turkoglu can reach the 1,000-game plateau. The Kings No. 16 overall pick in 2000 has appeared in 997 games across six teams, averaging 11.1 points, four rebounds, and 2.8 assists.

While the last few seasons - and a laughably bad contract with the Toronto Raptors in 2009 - may cloud the memory, Turkoglu was a borderline All-Star for several years. From 2004-05 to 2008-09, he flanked Dwight Howard as a point forward for some successful Orlando Magic teams, averaging 15.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists over those seasons.

His efficacy waned from there, and in 111 games over the last three years, he shot below 40 percent and averaged 3.4 points in 11.6 minutes. He probably doesn't have much utility left at this point, but a training camp invite remains possible.
