Cavaliers officially sign Richard Jefferson

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

It may not be a fiasco of DeAndre Jordan-ish proportions, but the Dallas Mavericks have been jilted again, as Richard Jefferson - who initially agreed to re-sign with the Mavs - has officially signed on with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Terms of the deal were not released, but it's expected that the 35-year-old swingman will sign for one year at the veteran's minimum.

Despite his age and waning productivity, Jefferson has remained spectacularly durable - he crossed the career 1,000-game threshold last season - as well as being reliable from long range. He's hit better than 40 percent from 3-point territory in four of the past five seasons, including 42.6 percent in 2014-15.

That shooting ability will be of particular interest to the Cavs, who launched the second-most threes of any NBA team last season. It's enough that they're willing to add an estimated $3.6 million to their 2015-16 luxury tax bill in order to sign him.

Jefferson played in 74 games for Dallas, averaging 5.8 points and 2.5 rebounds in 16.8 minutes a night.
