Hawks' Scott bonds out following arrest, reportedly told police drugs were his

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Atlanta Hawks forward Mike Scott bonded out of jail following his arrest Thursday on felony drug charges, a Banks County Sheriff's Department spokesperson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Chris Vivalamore.

Scott was arrested in Banks County, Ga., after a vehicle in which he was a passenger was pulled over and found to contain more than an ounce of marijuana and 10.9 grams of MDMA. His bond was set at $8,100 and a court date is pending.

Scott told police the drugs were his, according to the incident report obtained by the Journal-Constitution.

The vehicle was driven by Scott's brother, Antonn Scott, who posted a bond of $9,300. Like Mike, Antonn is charged with felony possession of marijuana and possession of a Scheule I drug. Antonn was also charged with fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement officers, and following too closely.

The Hawks declined to comment beyond Thursday's statement from president and head coach Mike Budenholzer:

We are aware of the situation involving Mike Scott this morning. Out of respect for the legal process, we will not have any additional comment at this time.

It's possible that MIke could face discipline from the Hawks and the NBA, but there's no recent precedent for a player being arrested on felony drug charges. A court date is pending.

The 27-year-old Virginia native averaged 7.8 points and 2.9 rebounds for the Hawks last season and is under contract through the 2016-17 season.
