Report: Nick Young confident he'll start season with Lakers after meeting with GM

Nick Young's first season after securing a new contract with the Los Angeles Lakers didn't exactly go as planned, but it appears Swaggy P will remain a member of the purple and gold, at least for now.

A recent meeting with general manager Mitch Kupchak has left the enigmatic swingman more confident he'll still be a Laker when the 2015-16 tips off, a league source familiar with Young's thinking told L.A. Daily News' Mark Medina.

That adds up with a previous report from earlier this month, which suggested the Lakers had shelved plans to trade Young after finding no suitable deals.

Young missed 40 games this past season with a variety of knee, thumb, ankle, and foot injuries, following up a career-year shooting the ball in 2013-14 with a career-low effective field goal percentage of 45.3 in 2014-15.

Young, who signed a four-year contract with the Lakers last summer, has $16 million remaining over the final three years of his deal, with a player option in 2017-18.

While his place in Los Angeles may be secure for now, Young's role may not be as safe, as the Lakers added reigning Sixth Man of the Year, Lou Williams, with a three-year, $21-million deal this month.
