Mavs' contract with J.J. Barea increases after Jordan snub, now a reported 4-year, $16M deal

Center DeAndre Jordan's decision to back out of his verbal commitment to the Dallas Mavericks has resulted in more years and money on J.J. Barea's new contract.
The team announced Thursday that they have officially re-signed the 31-year-old point guard, and ESPN's Tim McMahon reports that the deal will be worth $16 million over the next four seasons.
Barea was originally slated to sign a two-year, $5.6-million deal, but the contract was renegotiated after Jordan decided to return to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Not only does Barea get an extra $10.3 million, but shooting guard Wesley Matthews will also see more money with Jordan out of the picture, with his originally reported four-year, $57-million contract jumping to $70 million.
"They knew I wanted to be there for a long time. They wanted me there for a long time, so we made it happen," Barea told McMahon.
In 77 appearances last season for the Mavericks, Barea averaged 7.5 points and 3.4 assists on 42 percent shooting with a career-high PER of 15.1.
