Bogut, Dellavedova, Exum to represent Australia at Olympic qualifiers
The Boomers are one player short of being able to field an all-NBA starting five in their Olympic qualifiers next month.
The Australian men's national team announced Tuesday that newly crowned champion Andrew Bogut, sophomore Matthew Dellavedova, and fellow NBA newbies Dante Exum and Cameron Bairstow will join the team this summer as it attempts to qualify for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The FIBA Oceania Championship runs from Aug. 15-18. The two-game, home-and-home series features one game in Melbourne, Australia and another in Wellington, New Zealand.
Missing from this year's roster are former Spurs teammates Patty Mills and Aron Baynes; the former is on the mend, having suffered a shoulder injury which caused him to miss significant time in 2014-15, while the latter is recovering from an ankle injury.
Baynes recently signed a three-year deal with the Detroit Pistons.
Should the Aussies defeat the Kiwis in the tournament, they would qualify for next year's Olympics.
Throughout the 44-year history of the FIBA Oceania Championship, Australia has defeated New Zealand 18 times in 21 tries.
