Report: Bulls agree to re-sign Aaron Brooks on 1-year deal

Another season, another shaky contingency plan behind Derrick Rose.
The Chicago Bulls have agreed to a one-year deal to re-sign point guard Aaron Brooks, according to Marc Stein of ESPN. The deal is believed to be for roughly $2 million rather than the veteran minimum, meaning Brooks will take up a portion of the team's taxpayer mid-level exception.
The Bulls signed Brooks to a minimum deal last offseason, deploying him as Rose's backup plan alongside Kirk Hinrich. Hinrich is back, too, but the Bulls have so far failed to land a more steady number two for their oft-injured superstar. The Bulls don't have a lot of salary cap wiggle room, though their frontcourt depth could make a trade a possibility.
Brooks is a fine depth player and a talented scorer, as the 30-year-old averaged 11.6 points and 3.2 assists in 23 minutes a season ago. He'll fill the same role for 2015-16 unless the Bulls make another addition, though how new head coach Fred Hoiberg will manage the rotation may not be the same as his predecessor.
Because the Bulls own Brooks' one-year Bird rights and he signed a one-year deal, he will have the ability to block any trade during the season.
