Corey Brewer and the Houston Rockets made no progress on a deal last night, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

The two sides met shortly after free agency started but were unable to hammer out a price for Brewer's services. The 29-year-old is said to be interested in re-signing in Houston, but he's listening to other offers as well.

Although it's not a perfect facsimile, the contract inked by Al-Farouq Aminu probably sets the market for a player like Brewer. Aminu is larger and stronger, but they're essentially both defense-first role players who play on the wing despite inconsistent jump shots.

Aminu landed a four-year, $30-million deal with the Portland Trail Blazers, so Brewer is likely looking for something similar. However, the Rockets might be unwilling to pay his sticker price, especially considering their proficiency in finding bargain contributors. Brewer himself was picked up on the cheap last season.

Still, he played an important role for the 55-win Rockets last season, serving as the team's first wing off the bench, and providing energy and defense. His high motor, mobility, and expansive wingspan are perfectly suited for the Rockets' hyper-aggressive defense.

Brewer turned down his player option worth $4.9 million to become a free agent. He averaged 11.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.4 steals in 26.1 minutes per game in 81 games between Houston and Minnesota.
