Losing a key member of the roster to unrestricted free agency is never an ideal situation for any NBA squad. The Los Angeles Clippers will do their best to make sure they get some sort of compensation should their starting center head for greener pastures.

DeAndre Jordan, who led the NBA in both rebounds per game (15) and field-goal percentage (71 percent) last season, is set to hit the open market, with the Dallas Mavericks being one of the early favorites to sign the 6-foot-11 big man.

The Clippers are "hopeful" they'll retain Jordan's services, but should he choose to join Dirk Nowitzki and company in the Big D, Los Angeles will attempt to complete a sign-and-trade with the Mavericks for fellow unrestricted free-agent center Tyson Chandler to replace him, ESPN's Ramona Shelburne reports.

Chandler, who is six years Jordan's senior, won an NBA championship with the Mavericks in 2011 before signing a four-year deal later that year with the New York Knicks, who inevitably traded him back to Dallas last summer.

"Business is business," said Chandler about possibly being dealt in a move to acquire Jordan.

"And at the end of the day, I get it. The franchise (has) to make the best decision for the franchise. Of course, I still feel like I can go, still have a lot to give. But at the end of the day, I feel like I'll make the best decision for myself and my family and the Mavericks will make the best decision for the organization."

Chandler averaged a double-double of 10.3 points and 11.5 rebounds in 75 appearances for the Mavericks last season. He's not nearly as athletic as Jordan, but he can be just as impactful on the defensive end and in the pick-and-roll.

The Los Angeles Lakers also have their sights set on Jordan, but may not have the resources to sign him if they're intent on handing out two max deals.
