Report: Knicks frontrunners for Monroe, Afflalo

The New York Knicks may not be frontrunners for LaMarcus Aldridge, but it sounds like they may be the primary choice to land fellow big man Greg Monroe and shooting guard Arron Afflalo, according to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Knicks will be shopping this summer and have the necessary cap space to sign both, Wojnarowski reports. Monroe will likely command a maximum contract on the back of career averages of just over 14 points and nine rebounds a game, while Afflalo could earn a three-year deal in the vicinity of $12 million a season.

Afflalo opted out of his contract for next season at just under $8 million. He was obtained by the Portland Trail Blazers at the trade deadline from the Denver Nuggets and averaged 13.3 points on 42.4 percent shooting on the season between the two teams.

Monroe's days with the Detroit Pistons are all but over, with the Georgetown product saying as much this weekend.

Adding the two players would certainly fill a need for the Knicks, although the team's highly critical fanbase can freely debate the value of either player. President Phil Jackson has been adamant the team needs a big man for the triangle and was unable to address that need in the immediate term at the draft.
