Report: Thaddeus Young 'on course' for 4-year, $48-million deal
Thaddeus Young is scheduled for a substantial raise this summer.
Young opted out of his 2015-16 player option worth $10.2 million and will become an unrestricted free agent. And for good reason. He is "on course" for a four-year, $48-million deal, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.
The Brooklyn Nets are interested in retaining Young and are said to be amenable to Young's demands, reports Wojnarowski.
The 27-year-old Young was a tremendous contributor for the Nets last season, helping infuse a hapless Brooklyn squad with some much needed energy and athleticism. Young averaged 13.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.4 steals in 28 games with the Nets in helping Brooklyn make a late playoff push.
Young's versatility and motor makes him a valuable contributor. Young mostly plays power forward, but has the quickness and instincts to defend the wing. He gets most of his points on hustle plays and is a strong rebounder for his size.
However, Young's price is a tad exorbitant for Nets, who also plan on signing Brook Lopez to a three-year, $60-million extension. Altogether, the Nets appear poised to repeat as luxury tax payers despite having a fringe playoff contender centered by an aging, injury-prone core.
