Report: Arron Afflalo to decline player option for 2015-16; will become an unrestricted free agent

Arron Afflalo is looking to cash in this summer.
Afflalo will decline his $7.75-million player option with the Portland Trail Blazers for 2015-16 and become an unrestricted free agent, reports TNT's David Aldridge.
Reports surfaced as early as May 1 that Afflalo would opt out, but conflicting reports denounced those rumors as "premature." However, with free agency set to open in less than two weeks, Afflalo has apparently decided to hit the market.
Afflalo has bounced between the Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic, and the Trail Blazers over the past two seasons, posting averages of 15.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists on 38.9 percent shooting from deep in the process. He's a strong catch-and-shoot option and a decent on-ball defender.
On account of his proven track record as a secondary scorer, Afflalo should draw plenty of interest this summer. The 29-year-old is one of the top unrestricted shooting-guard options on the market, along with fellow Trail Blazer Wes Matthews.
Incidentally, the move should free up resources for Portland to ink Matthews to another contract. Matthews is looking for a multiyear deal with a bigger role in the offense, and with Portland's future in the hands of LaMarcus Aldridge, Matthews just might get his wish.
