Kobe Bryant sets another record ... on the real estate market

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

When his NBA career is over, perhaps as soon as 2016, Kobe Bryant has the makings of a quality real estate mogul.

The Los Angeles Lakers superstar has been climbing up the NBA's all-time leaderboards over the past several years, but it was the California real estate recordbook he took aim at this week.

Bryant sold his Newport Coast home for $6,116,500, the highest price ever paid for a listing in that area. And it's not really close - the previous high on record was a $4.78-million sale price from 2013 - even though Bryant had originally listed the home for $8.6 million.

Here are the details of the 8,741-square foot abode from the Los Angeles Times:

Built in Mediterranean style in 1997, the house was recently renovated and expanded and has walnut floors, limestone, stone pillars and detailed molding throughout. Two stories of living space take in unobstructed ocean and city views.

Among custom highlights is an 850-square-foot gym, a hair salon and a wood-paneled office with a built-in shark tank. A home theater is outfitted with a lobby entrance, stadium seating and a wet bar. There are four bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms, including a master suite with a private sitting room, a newly added walk-in closet and a marble-lined bath.

Newport Coast is located in Orange County, meaning Bryant is surely a huge fan of the hit television series The O.C. Prior to their divorce, Bryant and ex-wife Vanessa owned multiple million-dollar homes in the same area of California.

Despite all of those former holdings and his recent record, Bryant still has nothing on Chris Bosh's portfolio.
