Could the allure of coaching Anthony Davis coax Jeff Van Gundy from his eight-year absence from the sidelines?

Jeff Van Gundy has expressed interest in the New Orleans Pelicans' head coaching vacancy, reports Marc Stein of ESPN. He will be under consideration for the spot along with Golden State Warriors' assistant Alvin Gentry and Chicago Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau.

Van Gundy has split his 11-year career as head coach between the New York Knicks and Houston Rockets, amassing a record of 430-318 (57.5 win percentage). He led his team to the postseason in nine of his 11 seasons at the helm.

Since his dismissal from Houston in 2007, Van Gundy has become one of the most visible broadcasters for ESPN alongside Mike Breen and Mark Jackson.

Van Gundy's teams have historically been defensively sound. His gritty late-1990s Knicks followed that strategy, producing a memorable 1999 finals run and the most publicized moment of Van Gundy's career.
