Rockets' Howard probable for Game 3 vs. Warriors

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Rockets are heading home with their backs once again against the wall. It sounds like they'll at least have a healthier Dwight Howard going forward.

After an admirable 19-point, 17-rebound performance in a heartbreaking Game 2 loss to the Golden State Warriors, Howard has been listed as probable for Game 3 in Houston.

Howard suffered a sprained left knee after banging knees with teammate Josh Smith during the first quarter of Game 1, and was obviously limited for the duration of the game.

The star big man's Game 2 status then remained in question until just before Thursday's tipoff, so the fact he's already been listed as probable for Saturday's Game 3, a day after logging 40 minutes of action, is an indication that Howard's condition is improving.

Howard, who missed half the regular season with lingering issues in his right knee, has been a key component of the Rockets' run to the Western Conference Finals, averaging more than 16 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks on 59 percent shooting during the playoffs.

The Rockets have performed eight points per 100 possessions better with Howard on the court as opposed to the bench. While their offense has stagnated somewhat with D-12 manning the middle, the Rockets' defense has improved dramatically.
