LaMarcus Aldridge: Undergoes Thumb Surgery Monday

Aldridge underwent surgery Monday to repair to repair the torn ligament in his left thumb, which will require eight weeks of recovery, the Blazers' official site reports.

Analysis:

In his exit interview, Aldridge relayed there was a 20 percent chance that he would avoid surgery on the afflicted region, but an examination revealed what was believed to be inevitable when he sustained the injury on Jan. 19. After delaying the procedure, he remained a reliable double-double threat, averaging of 23.6 points (on 47 percent shooting), 10.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 0.7 blocks in 35 minutes. While his effectiveness waned in the first-round series loss to the Grizzlies -- he put up 21.8 points per game on 33 percent shooting -- the power forward compensated with 11.2 boards and 2.4 blocks per night. With unrestricted free agency imminent, his ultimate destination will be one of the most discussed story lines of the summer.
