Whiteside, whose hand is completely healed said improving his free throw shooting will be a priority this offseason, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis:
Whiteside emerged as an elite rebounder, shot-blocker and finisher around the rim last season, but his glaring weakness was free throw shooting, as he converted only 50 percent of his 156 attempts. Seven-footers with Whiteside's style of play don't typically shoot well from the line, so the Heat likely aren't expecting a drastic improvement, but if Whiteside can up his percentage into even the mid-60's it would be a significant jump. For what it's worth, in his lone season of college ball at Marshall in 2009-10, Whiteside shot 58.8 percent from the line.
