Mirza Teletovic hoping to remain with Nets

Mirza Teletovic wants to remain with the Brooklyn Nets, citing the team's medical staff, which treated him through life-threatening blood clots this season, as one of the reasons why.

Teletovic spoke to reporters in his home country of Slovenia on Friday, sounding more open to staying in Brooklyn than he did during the team's exit interviews, when he said he trusts his agent's instincts above all.

"I like Brooklyn," Teletovic said in remarks translated by Igor Marinovic of Sportske Novosti. "I know the team and everyone, especially doctors, treated me great when (blood clots in his lungs) happened. I really would like to stay in Brooklyn."

The 6-foot-9, 242-pound power forward with spacing ability also tried to put a positive spin on what was roundly viewed as a tremendously mediocre season for the Nets.

"I think we had a good season, given the fact that they changed the coach and teammates. Deron (Williams), Brook (Lopez), Joe (Johnson) and I are the only players who have not changed," Teletovic said. "I think it is important for the Nets to stay with the same system."

Teletovic is expected to be extended a qualifying offer this summer, making him a restricted free agent.

The 29-year-old played eight minutes in two playoff games after missing the season's last 39 contests due to the medical situation with his lungs. He averaged 8.5 points and 4.9 rebounds in just over 22 minutes a game.
