Nets' Alan Anderson says he will test free agent market
Alan Anderson is soon to be a free man.
The Brooklyn Nets swingman told the media on Saturday that he intends to exercise his player option for next season to become a free agent.
Anderson emphasized his availability to those in attendance.
"I'm free," said Anderson. "I mean, I would love to stay in Brooklyn, but I am a free agent. So I will be free."
The 32-year-old started in 19 of the 74 regular season games he appeared in, averaging 7.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 23.6 minutes. During the Nets' first-round series against the Atlanta Hawks, Anderson averaged 11 points and shot 61 percent from the field.
Anderson has seen action in Europe and the D-League, settled for a short while in Canada with the Toronto Raptors during the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons, ultimately to land in Brooklyn in July 2013. He re-signed with the Nets in 2014 to a two-year deal reportedly worth $3 million.
According to Eddie Scarito of Hoops Rumors, the Nets have Anderson's early bird rights, meaning that they could offer him a salary without regard to the team's salary cap.
