Former NBA player Javaris Crittenton pleaded guilty to the 2011 murder of Julian Jones on Wednesday and accepted a 23-year prison sentence as part of the deal.

Prosecutors stated that Crittenton shot the 22-year-old mother of four while aiming for a man he claimed robbed him days earlier, according to a report by WSTV-2 Atlanta.

Crittenton offered a tearful apology to the victim's family, calling it a horrible accident.

A first-round draft pick in 2007 by the Los Angeles Lakers, Crittenton also spent time with the Memphis Grizzlies, Washington Wizards and Charlotte Bobcats, and played ball in China and the NBA D-League.

Most notably, Crittenton received a year-long ban during the 2009-2010 season after he and Wizards teammate Gilbert Arenas brought firearms to the Verizon Center locker room following a dispute on a team flight.
