(SportsNetwork.com) - The Portland Trail Blazers will have their opportunity to get back in the series Saturday night when the Memphis Grizzlies visit the Moda Center for Game 3 of their Western Conference quarterfinals.
The Blazers, who are the fourth seed by virtue of winning the Northwest Division, but don't have homecourt advantage because Memphis finished with a better regular-season record, have had a tough go of it through two games.
After a 14-point loss in Game 1, the Blazers played a little better, but still fell to the ultra-physical Grizzlies, 97-82, in Wednesday's Game 2. Portland is averaging just 84 ppg in this series.
"Obviously it's disappointing to lose but we played a much better game than we did in Game 1," said Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts. "We showed signs that when we go back to Portland, continue to improve and give them a shot in Portland."
Mike Conley shook off the throbbing pain in his right foot to help the Grizzlies to another easy victory. Conley had 18 points and six assists and went 6-for-11 from the field.
He missed the last four games of the regular season with a sprained right foot.
Marc Gasol posted 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists, Zach Randolph provided 10 points and 10 boards and Courtney Lee netted 18 points for Memphis, which took its first 2-0 playoff series lead in franchise history.
"We are going to try to break down the game, the things we did right today and the things that we did wrong, and the adjustments they made from Game 1 to Game 2," said Gasol. "We are going to try to dissect everything and just take it one possession at a time. We aren't going to look at it big picture yet. We are going to try to take it as small as we can and try to attack them where we feel we can do a really good job on both ends of the floor."
LaMarcus Aldridge tallied 24 points and 14 rebounds to lead Portland, which was without Arron Afflalo and Chris Kaman due to injury. Afflalo was held out for a fifth straight game due to a right shoulder strain.
Afflalo declared he will play on Saturday.
Blazers star guard Damian Lillard struggled from the floor again, scoring 18 points on 5-of-16 shooting after going 5-of-21 from the field in Game 1. Lillard is 1-of-11 from beyond the arc so far in the series.
"It's one of those situations where you've got to keep playing," said Lillard. "They're doing a great job defensively. I'm trying to figure out the coverages, listening to the way they communicate to figure out what they're trying to do. The looks that I am getting are the shots that I've got to be able to make. It's obviously not helping my team and I've got to stick with it."
Memphis is 6-0 against the Blazers this season, including two wins in Portland.
Game 4 will be Monday night.
