Blake Griffin ended Aron Baynes on Sunday. Three times. Baynes just ceases to exist now.

The Los Angeles Clippers power forward is well-known for dunking all over opponents, but his dominance of the helpless San Antonio Spurs center - in Game 1 of the playoffs, no less - warranted special tribute.

That's what brought Bone Thugs-n-Harmony to Sportsnation on Monday, with Bizzy Bone, Wish Bone, Layzie Bone, Krayzie Bone and Flesh-n-Bone performing their 1996 hit "Tha Crossroads" in appreciation of Griffin's prowess, and in memoriam of the Spurs.

The fit here makes sense and is a fun idea, but allow us to pick a few nits:

  • The tribute really should have been to Baynes. Tha Crossroads is perhaps the most relied upon song for when a friend passes away, right there with "Every Breath You Take" by Puff Daddy and Faith Evans. It's not a positive or happy song, and while it was introduced as an homage to the Spurs, it's been promoted online as a tribute to Griffin.
  • The performance was, well, it was a rap group performing a 20-year-old song on a sports show.
  • Sportsnation missed a golden opportunity to add a tribute video to the proceedings. The video for Tha Crossroads sees several people die and their souls escape their physical vessels, and the same really could have been done for Baynes here.
