Mike Conley to sit for Grizzlies on Friday, Tony Allen still out

Justin Ford-USA TODAY Sports

In a development that might be concerning for Memphis Grizzlies fans, point guard Mike Conley will miss Friday's game against the Utah Jazz.

He's listed as having a right foot sprain, an injury he apparently suffered in Wednesday's win over the New Orleans Pelicans

While playoff-bound teams sitting their best players at this time of year is not uncommon, the Grizzlies are in a dogfight with the Houston Rockets for the Southwest title and the No. 2 seed, and with four games left could still end up as low as sixth in the Western Conference.

Conley has been running cold shooting the ball in his past five games, hitting only 33.2 percent of his shots. He's missed eight games this season mostly due to ankle issues.

The Grizzlies are also still without veteran defensive specialist Tony Allen, whose hamstring strain has now kept him out of six straight contests.

Ronald Tillery of the Memphis Commercial Appeal reported that Allen did not travel with the Grizzlies on their three-game road trip, putting a possible return before the playoffs in some doubt.

The Grizzlies wrap up the regular season next Wednesday at home against the Indiana Pacers.
