Fans finally have a draft-night trade involving first-year prospects to sink their teeth into.

The Washington Wizards acquired the 15th pick in the NBA Draft from the Atlanta Hawks, and selected small forward Kelly Oubre from Kansas.

Atlanta will receive the No. 19 pick, as well as two future second-round picks, Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reports.

Rumors were running rampant about the New York Knicks and Charlotte Hornets possibly moving up or down, yet both teams maintained their position.

With one of the highest upsides left on the board, the Wizards are hoping Oubre can provide a blend of floor spacing and defense that, while rare, has grown increasingly important in the NBA. While not a finished product, Oubre has sounded ready to put in the necessary work throughout the pre-draft process, and betting he'll fulfill his appreciable potential could prove a smart gambit.

However, what Oubre can be - a strong shooter and lockdown defender, thanks in large part to his 7-foot-2 wingspan - is not what he showed as a freshman. Oubre averaged 9.3 points in Bill Self's notoriously star-free offense and hit 35.8 percent from long range, numbers that don't do justice to the potential teams see.

A great athlete and strong finisher in the open court or in traffic, Oubre has all the ingredients of a starting small forward.

"The Truth" Paul Pierce isn't getting any younger at 37 years old, and with the 17-year veteran reportedly opting out of his contract, taking a young workhorse like Oubre to be the small forward of the future makes perfect sense.

Perhaps Wizards management was so impressed by Oubre's choice of footwear on draft night they couldn't help but trade up to acquire his services. He is a "jewel," after all.
