Lakers' Ellington to miss rest of the season with separated shoulder

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

One last blow for the Los Angeles Lakers before their nightmare season is over.

An MRI confirmed Thursday that shooting guard Wayne Ellington has a Grade 1 shoulder separation and will miss the remainder of the season. Ellington suffered the injury Wednesday in the Lakers' loss to the New Orleans Pelicans.

Ellington's injury is just the latest episode in a long line of ailments for the Lakers this season. Rookie Julius Randle broke his tibia in the first game of the season. Then, Kobe Bryant suffered a separated shoulder after appearing in 35 games.

The Lakers are well out of playoff contention, so it's not a terrible loss for them, but Ellington was well on his way to a resurgent season, averaging 10 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists.
