Westbrook, DeRozan named Players of the Month

Mark D. Smith-USA TODAY Sports

Russell Westbrook and DeMar DeRozan have been named Western Conference and Eastern Conference Players of the Month, respectively, for April.

Westbrook averaged 32.5 points, 8.1 assists and eight rebounds to capture his third consecutive monthly honor, as the injury-riddled Oklahoma City Thunder came up just short in their pursuit of the West's eighth and final playoff spot.

Other nominees for the West award were Stephen Curry, DeAndre Jordan, Chris Paul, Anthony Davis and Kawhi Leonard.

DeRozan continued what has been the best six-week stretch of his career in a two-week sample in April, averaging an East-leading 24.1 points per game on an impressive true shooting percentage of 58.1

DeRozan also averaged 4.9 assists and 3.7 rebounds as the Toronto Raptors clinched a franchise-record 49-win season and home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

The 25-year-old joins teammate Kyle Lowry and former Raptor Chris Bosh as the only Player of the Month recipients in team history.

Isaiah Thomas, Brook Lopez, Pau Gasol and C.J. Miles also received nominations in the East.
