Lakers officially waive Steve Nash, sign Jabari Brown for rest of season

Robert Hanashiro-USA TODAY Sports

Steve Nash will likely end his NBA career as a footnote in another player's transaction.

The two-time MVP was waived Wednesday to facilitate the signing of shooting guard Jabari Brown for the remainder of the season.

Nash announced his intention to retire on March 21 in a piece for the Players' Tribune and on his Twitter account.

The 41-year-old has been plagued by injuries since injuring his leg in 2012. He was shut down by the Lakers in October with back and nerve issues.

Nash averaged 14.3 points, 8.5 assists and three rebounds over his 18-year career.

Brown has averaged 9.4 points per game in 10 contests.
