Grizzlies' Tony Allen out Sunday with hamstring injury

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The Memphis Grizzlies will be without defensive specialist Tony Allen on Sunday against the San Antonio Spurs in what's suddenly become a crucial contest.

Allen has been ruled out due to a hamstring injury he suffered during Friday's blowout loss to the Golden State Warriors

Memphis needs all the help it can get, as a mini two-game skid coupled with the Houston Rockets' surge has the two teams tied atop the Southwest Division. Houston extended its winning streak to four games Sunday with a 99-91 victory over the Washington Wizards

The Grizzlies, who have paced the division for nearly the entire season, have nine games remaining, including Sunday's road matchup against a Spurs team that's 12-3 in its last 15 games. Having already clinched a playoff berth, Memphis is trying to secure its first division title in franchise history as well as home court throughout the first round of the playoffs.

Allen, among the top wing defenders in the game, is averaging 8.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and two steals in 63 games.
