Warriors match franchise record with 59th win in romp over Grizzlies

The Golden State Warriors are putting the finishing touches on one of the finest regular seasons in NBA history, showing no sign of slowing down as they bulldoze their way to a near-certain No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.

On Friday night against the Memphis Grizzlies - the only team still mathematically able to catch them for the top spot - the Warriors showed no mercy, controlling proceedings practically from the opening tip on their way to a 107-84 rout. They improved to 59-13, matching their franchise record for wins in a season with 10 games yet to play.

For the scuffling Grizzlies, it was the second consecutive game in which they suffered their worst home loss of the season, having lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers by 22 on Wednesday night. After looking like the biggest threat to the Warriors' dominion for much of the season, they've hit a rough patch at the worst possible time, and are now just 9-9 in their past 18 games.

While the Warriors have thrived on balance, this game was all about their devastating backcourt tandem. Steph Curry and Klay Thompson combined to score 66 points on 22-of-39 shooting and 14-of-21 from deep. Let's just write that one more time: 14-of-21 from deep. The two of them combined to hit more threes than the whole Grizzlies team even attempted.

Curry was especially transcendent, dropping 38 points and dishing 10 assists. In the third quarter, in which the Warriors effectively put the game on ice, he scored a cool 17, stretching his team's lead from five to 20.

The Grizzlies were the only team in the NBA the Warriors had yet to beat this season.
