Anthony Davis made 100 postgame free throws after shooting poorly in loss

Anthony Davis is enjoying one of the most productive statistical seasons in NBA history, averaging 24.6 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.9 blocks, two assists and 1.5 steals to go along with a 31.3 PER that ranks eighth all-time.

But with his New Orleans Pelicans fading from the insanely competitive Western Conference playoff race and Davis's pursuit of greatness undeterrable, the 22-year-old still finds room for improvement.

To wit, after an uncharacteristic 6-of-14 performance from the free-throw line in Wednesday's loss to the Houston Rockets, Davis, an 81 percent free-throw shooter, refused to hit the showers until he made 100 shots from the charity stripe.

"I missed eight free throws," Davis said afterwards, as reported by The Times Picayune's John Reid. "I don't feel comfortable missing eight free throws, especially when we lost by two. I make eight free throws, we win by six. I just don't like it, missing free throws like that. We needed them and I missed them."

A four-game losing streak has seen the Pelicans fall 3.5 games behind Oklahoma City for the eighth and final playoff spot.

While Davis's stellar play has been a key component in keeping the Pelicans afloat, the MVP candidate will likely be haunted by Wednesday's showing if New Orleans ultimately falls one game short.
