Warriors' Bogut on Curry: 'He's the MVP ... I don't think it's close'

He may be biased, but Andrew Bogut doesn't believe the greatest MVP race in a quarter century is much of a race at all.

"I don't think it's close in my opinion," Bogut told reporters in support of his Golden State Warriors teammate Stephen Curry after Curry dropped 33 points and 10 assists on the Portland Trail Blazers Tuesday.

The Warriors' utter domination of the league this season - with an average point differential of plus-10.7 - has allowed Curry to log fewer minutes than most MVP candidates. But Bogut doesn't believe that should be held against the superstar point guard.

"He only needs to play 25, 30 minutes, and we're winning games by 15, 20 points," Bogut said. "If he had to play 45 minutes for us, I'm sure he'd be averaging greater numbers, so in a way, it's kind of flawed.

"He's the MVP in my opinion. We're the best team in the league. We have the best record in the league."

Curry is averaging 23.4 points, 7.9 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists on a sparkling 48-42-91 shooting line while playing excellent perimeter defense for the league's No. 1 defensive team.

The Warriors sit atop the overall standings with a record of 58-13, 4 1/2 games clear of second-place Atlanta.
