Report: Rockets' Beverley has torn wrist ligament

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Rockets might be without shutdown defender Patrick Beverley for their upcoming postseason run.

Beverley has a torn ligament in his left wrist, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports. As Rockets coach Kevin McHale told media Wednesday, Wojnarowski reports the point guard will be re-evaluated in 7-10 days.

Beverley is scheduled to see specialists and has left the team's current road trip, McHale said. On Tuesday, Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports reported that Beverley could require season-ending surgery.

Beverley sustained the wrist injury Monday against the New Orleans Pelicans

On the season, Beverley has averaged 10.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists while playing elite shutdown defense. The Rockets allow 4.7 points per-100 possessions fewer with Beverley on the court.

If Beverley does indeed miss the remainder of the season, the Rockets will have to play some combination of Jason Terry and Pablo Prigioni at the point. On a positive note, the Rockets are 6-0 in games Terry has started. The Beverley injury comes just as Dwight Howard makes his return to the lineup Wednesday.
