Anthony Davis returns from ankle injury Sunday; Evans and Asik out

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Pelicans will get a big boost for their Sunday afternoon matchup with the Los Angeles Clippers, as Anthony Davis will return from a two-game absence.

Davis, who rolled his ankle during Thursday's morning shootaround, had been listed as probable earlier in the day and was upgraded to active after a strong pregame workout.

The 22-year-old MVP candidate is averaging 24.6 points, 10.4 rebounds, a league-leading 2.9 blocks, 1.9 assists and 1.4 steals for the Pelicans, who perform more than 11 points per 100 possessions better with Davis on the court.

Tyreke Evans will sit out Sunday's game with an ankle injury of his own, while Omer Asik will also be sidelined with a calf injury. Both players were injured in Thursday's loss to the Phoenix Suns.

New Orleans is two games behind eighth-place Oklahoma City in the Western Conference standings.
