Rubio returns for Timberwolves; Pekovic, Garnett, Neal remain out

Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports

Ricky Rubio will return from a two-game absence for Wednesday's contest against the Toronto Raptors

The Minnesota Timberwolves point guard was sidelined with an ankle sprain. He missed close to three months earlier in the season with a severe ankle sprain, shortly after inking a four-year, $55-million contract extension.

Rubio, limited to 21 games in his fourth season, is averaging 10.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and a career-high 8.8 assists in 31.5 minutes. He's once again struggling with his shot, however, shooting 35.8 percent from the field and 26 percent from long range.

While the Timberwolves are getting Rubio back, power forward Kevin Garnett, center Nikola Pekovic and guard Gary Neal all remain out.

Pekovic, like Rubio, has been hampered by injuries this season and is set to miss his fourth straight game with an ankle issue.

The 38-year-old Garnett, meanwhile, has been bothered by knee soreness and will miss his sixth consecutive contest. Garnett's played in only five games since the Timberwolves acquired him from the Brooklyn Nets at the trade deadline.

Neal will miss his third straight game with an illness.
