Talent chasm on stark display as Warriors destroy Knicks

Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Knicks actually had a four-point lead on the Golden State Warriors early in the second quarter in Oakland Saturday night.

Twelve minutes of basketball time later at halftime, the Warriors led by 21.

Golden State's 47-point second quarter was the impetus for a 125-94 beatdown, led by the Splash Brothers. On his 27th birthday, Stephen Curry did it all in terms of shooting and dishing, finishing with 25 points and 11 assists. Klay Thompson went for 27 points, and like Curry was 6-of-10 from downtown.

Neither played a minute of the fourth quarter.

The Knicks, the worst team in the NBA, were brutally outclassed and overmatched by the Warriors, the league's best team.

The Knicks were led by Andrea Bargnani's 18 points. With the loss, New York was mercifully eliminated from playoff contention. Their .200 winning percentage this season is on pace for the worst in franchise history.
