Phil Jackson expects Knicks' Anthony to begin workouts in June

Carmelo Anthony has been receiving treatment at the New York Knicks' practice facility, and is feeling positive about his season-ending knee surgery. The team expects him to be ready for the start of the 2015-16 campaign.

Knicks president Phil Jackson said he expects Anthony to begin workouts in June. Anthony underwent surgery shortly after participating in the All-Star Game and was given a four-to-six month recovery timeline.

"We hope at some point in June he's able to start really training again ... so that he's really ready for the year," Jackson told reporters. "I think he's positive about it. We hope the rehab goes great. He's a guy we want to get back to something like he was a few years ago. This season he played on one leg it seemed like to me from the start it looked like he was favoring that."

Anthony missed sporadic time throughout the season battling knee issues before the surgery, finishing with averages of 24.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists in a career-low 40 games.

The team's leading scorer could do little to help the Knicks avoid their worst season in franchise history. New York (13-51) has an NBA-worst .203 winning percentage.

Jackson said he will look to build the team through free agency this offsesaon in an effort to get the storied franchise back on track.
