Report: Wizards weighing addition of Will Bynum or Bobby Brown for stretch run

Russ Isabella-USA TODAY Sports

With the trade deadline long gone and Ray Allen recently declining to return to the NBA this season, the Washington Wizards find themselves with an open roster spot and no immediate plan to fill it.

Long thought to be seeking wing depth, the return of Bradley Beal has the Wizards more solidified there and they may now look for depth at the point. The team flipped Andre Miller for Ramon Sessions at the deadline to solidify the backup position behind John Wall, but Wall ranks second in the league in minutes played and the team doesn't have a natural third point guard.

It's not surprising, then, that the Wizards are looking overseas after the NBA's buyout market provided little help at the one. The Wizards are weighing bringing in Will Bynum or Bobby Brown, according to a report from Marc Stein of ESPN. Both players would be playoff eligible and the team is at no risk of hitting the luxury tax threshold.

Bynum's a familiar name to NBA fans, having spent the past six seasons with the Detroit Pistons. He was dealt to the Boston Celtics and subsequently waived before the season, then headed to China to play alongside top prospect Emmanuel Mudiay.

In 30 games with Guangdong, Bynum averaged 22.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 7.1 assists while hitting 36.3 percent of his threes. In 353 career NBA games, Bynum averaged 8.2 points and 3.3 assists in 18.5 minutes, proving capable of providing a scoring spark off the bench at slightly below-average offensive efficiency.

Brown may be a more intriguing name, if only because the Cal State Fullerton alum has been out of the league since 2009-10. Brown received brief stints with four different teams over two years in the league, averaging 5.1 points and 1.8 assists in 12.8 minutes.

Since then, Brown has been everywhere, playing in Poland, Greece, Germany, Italy and China while also making regular Summer League appearances. In 41 games with Dongguan in China this year, Brown averaged 31.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 6.3 assists.
