Trail Blazers unsuccessfully tried to lure Ray Allen after Matthews' injury

Portland Trail Blazers general manager Neil Olshey was quick to work the phones following the news that shooting guard Wesley Matthews was set to miss the remainder of the season with a torn Achilles' tendon.

And Olshey had his eyes set on one of the greatest shooters of all time to help replace Matthews.

The Portland GM called the agent for Ray Allen to gauge the 39-year-old's interest in joining the Northwest Division-leading Trail Blazers. But Olshey was informed that the two-time championship has no desire to play and remains intent on sitting out the entire season, according to Adrian Wojnarowksi of Yahoo Sports.

Although Allen hasn't played since Game 5 of the 2014 NBA Finals as a member of the Miami Heat, the NBA's all-time leader in made 3-pointers has yet to announce his retirement, leaving the door open for a potential return next season.
