Durant talks about foot surgery, says he's 'not packing it in'

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

Kevin Durant is saying all the right things about his recovery from his second foot surgery in five months. The Oklahoma City Thunder forward said Wednesday he has no doubt he will return this season, according to a Q&A with Anthony Slater of The Oklahoman

"I'm looking forward to returning this season," Durant said. "No doubt. I'm not packing it in at all."

Durant underwent a procedure 10 days ago to replace a screw inserted during his first foot surgery in the preseason. The placement of the screw was causing the six-time All-Star pain - so much so that at one point during a game against the Dallas Mavericks he had trouble moving. Now, he says, it's all about recovery.

Yeah, now I know what happened in that Memphis game, in that Dallas game. I know why I was having so much pain and to have that corrected feels so much better. It’s just a matter of when somebody digs in your foot, you’re going to have some pain. That’s what happened when they reinserted a different screw. The pain that I had before is gone, but there’s still some pain there obviously from them going in there and stitching me up. But I should be fine soon.

Durant will be re-evaluated early next week. In more positive news, the Thunder will get Russell Westbrook back Wednesday from a one-game absence due to a fractured cheekbone.
